Shalat
Definition
Shalat is the most
important command of Allah.
This was why the
command was conveyed to Prophet Muhammad SAW directly and without any
intermediary, that is, during the journey of Isra’ and Mi’raj.
The command to
perform the Shalat is different from others.
Shalat means a prayer
or supplication to Allah.
According to the
Syari’ah, it means an act of worship that begins with Takbiratul Ihram and ends
with Salam.
Shalat must be
performed on time.
The five daily
obligatory prayers are :
1. Shalat Al-Zuhr
2. Shalat Al-‘Ashr
3. Shalat Al-Maghrib
4. Shalat Al-‘Isya`
5. Shalat Al-Subh
Conditions To Perform Shalat
1. Islam.
2. Reached puberty.
3. Sane.
4. Free from major
and minor impurities.
5. The body, clothes
and place of prayer is clean from defilement.
6. Know the Essentials
and Sunnah of Shalat.
7. Cover one’s
privacy (‘Aurah).
8. Face the Qiblah.
9. The time for
Shalat has ensued.
Note :
The ‘Aurah for men is
from the navel to the knees,
whereas the ‘Aurah
for women is the whole body except the face and both palms.
Essentials Of Shalat
1. Niyyah.
2. Standing straight
(Qiyam).
3. Takbiratul Ihram
(Say Allahu Akbar).
4. Recitation of
Al-Fatihah.
5. Ruku’ (bowing)
with Thama’ninah (keeping still for a little while).
6. Raf’u (rising from
bowing) with Thama’ninah.
7. Sujud
(prostrating) with Thama’ninah.
8. Sitting between
two sujud.
9. Sit for Tasyahhud
Akhir.
10. Recitation of
Tasyahhud Akhir.
11. Saying the
Shalawah (prayer to the Prophet Muhammad SAW) in Tasyahhud Akhir.
12. First Salam.
13. Following the
correct order.
Factors That Nullify Shalat
1. Ignoring the
Essentials of Shalat, such as Ruku’ and Sujud.
2. Talking in Shalat.
3. Uncovering of
one’s ‘Aurah.
4. Making three or
more consecutive movements.
5. Eating or drinking
intentionally.
6. Come into contact
with defilement (najis).
7. Turn away from the
Qiblah.
8. Laughing.
9. Adding the Essentials
of Shalat.
10. Surpassing the
Imam by more than two Essentials of Shalat.
11. Change of Niyyah.
12. Doing something
irrelevant to the Shalat.
13. The invalidation
of Wudhu’.
